Make: U.S. Springfield Model Model: 1873 Caliber: .45/70 Gov Action: Break Open Barrel: 31 Bore: Dark Serial # 105401 Condition: Very Good This U.S. Springfield Model 1873 is a historic arsenal-rebuilt weapon issued to the Massachusetts State Militia (National Guard). The rifle�s receiver was originally made in 1879. It sat in storage or saw light use until 1898, when Sumner L. Avery oversaw its complete rebuild with an updated 1884 breechblock and a brand-new wooden stock. Once passed, Avery stamped his script cartouche (SLA 1898) into the fresh wood by the hammer. The rifle was then issued directly to the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia (explaining the MASS barrel stamp), who carried these exact black-powder legacy weapons during the 1898 war era. The rifle remain in very good condition, showing normal signs of use and wear. Please see the photos .
