Total civilian sporting rifle production for the No. 1 frame reached roughly 12,000 to 12,500 units between 1868 and 1888. Given the early serial number and the choice of the .50-70 cartridge�which was the U.S. military standard until it was replaced by the .45-70 in 1873� rifle was most likely manufactured in the early 1870s (circa 1870�1873).
