This Winchester Model 1894 was first chambered in the .38-55 WCF, a powerful, medium bore cartridge that is still the preferred cartridge in vintage Model 1984 rifles today. It features a rifle configuration, with full length mag tube, a 26� octagonal barrel, smooth American walnut forend and straight stock with a corresponding steel crescent rifle buttplate with some scratches, dents, and dings with no signs of �structural� cracks. In its original patina with about 70% bluing fading with age and a decent bore. Modern .38-55 ammunition is readily available with nitro powders developing safe black powder pressures that this rifle was designed for! �Owner�s Note� This rifle was a Colorado Purchase and belonged to Colonel Edmond C. Abbott Sr. Colonel Edmund C. Abbott Sr. and Pancho Villa crossed paths during the Mexican Revolution. An American military officer and New Mexico territorial judge, Abbott served in the National Guard and was deployed under General John J. Pershing on the U.S.-Mexico border to pursue Pancho Villa. In 1916, after Pancho Villa's forces raided Columbus, New Mexico, President Woodrow Wilson sent U.S. troops south.
