This "Leopold Becher in Carlsbad" engraved on the lockplate, refers to the signature of Leopold Becher (c. 1725�1750), a highly distinguished Bohemian master gunmaker based in the spa city of Carlsbad (now Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic). Firearms bearing this signature are well-regarded museum pieces known for their fine craftsmanship. His muskets, rifles, and pistols typically feature Spanish-style barrels, gold-damascened accents, relief-carved walnut stocks, and rococo gilt-brass mounts.
